The Flat Rock Archive works with the local community to preserve African American history in rural Georgia. Through the collection of treasured items like family photos, landscape photos, written and oral histories, old documents, and papers, we can help the public to piece together the past.

Our goal is to collect and preserve the stories of local African American families, and we want your help. We will professionally scan your photos, letters, documents, etc., and return them to you. We can even arrange for you to visit the Archive and have them scanned while you wait. Help us build a collection of written and oral stories, photographs, cemetery records, and historical documents for our collections. The mission of the Archive is to preserve African American rural history.

With the global Covid-19 pandemic, it has been a difficult time to interact with the public. The Flat Rock volunteers want to work with you during this time to collect your history. We can arrange to pick up items and have them scanned and returned promptly to you. If you are a church, we can arrange a Share Your History Day and scan the photos at the church.

At the Flat Rock Archive, we know historic preservation's importance, and we want to save and share your story.
